Issues

A Stargazer corn snake will have odd, erratic movement, sometimes corkscrewing and seemingly unable to right itself. Stress or excitement, such as handling or feeding, seem to exacerbate the unusual movement. Stargazer corns can move normally at times. It’s unknown whether stargazing causes any distress or pain for the snake, but they seem to otherwise act like a normal snake as far as eating, shedding, exploring, etc.

History

The Stargazer mutation was originally discovered in Kathy Love’s Sunkissed breeding projects. Although it originated in Sunkissed corns, it was shortly thereafter determined to be a separate, unrelated mutation. After its discovery, some breeders used homozygous Stargazer corns to test breed their Sunkissed lines for the gene mutation. Stargazer is very uncommon in the hobby now.
